In France there are also caves, which are worth seeing. Aven Armand Cave should definitely be mentioned among them. The cave is located at the depth of about 100 meters and is known for its numerous stalagmites. In the cave there are over 400 types of these amazing geological formations. They form an incredibly beautiful architectural group of natural origin. In Aven Armand cave is the largest known stalagmite in the world, whose height is 30 meters.
The cave has been named in honour of the discoverer, a well-known French spearologist Louis Armand. He found the cave in 1897. For a free visit it was only opened 30 years later. Nowadays, visitors of the unique natural site can go down the cave with a cable car. The first observation platforms were built in 1927. To get there, visitors had to descend through a narrow tunnel, the length of which is more than 200 meters.
