In Nîmes, you can find a beautiful cathedral consecrated back in the 11th century. The cathedral was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt over the centuries, so today its appearance represents a combination of different architectural styles. One of the cathedral's main decorations is unique stone bas-reliefs depicting important old Testament scenes. The cathedral is the official residence of the archbishop since 1877.
One of the most visited cultural facilities in the city is the Museum of Fine Arts opened in 1821. A magnificent building, in which the museum is currently housed, was built to present its exposition in 1907. Today, the main exhibits of the museum are its unique mosaic paintings. Here you can also admire works by some famous French artists.
No less interesting site is a cultural center, known as "Square of the Arts" (Carré d'Art). It is housed in a beautiful modern building of regular rectangular shape, the facade of which is completely lined with mirrored tiles. Given the fact that in the immediate vicinity of this building there are unique antique attractions, it looks more than impressive. Today the museum's collection consists of several hundred paintings, among which there are works by famous artists from various Mediterranean countries. Also, the cultural center is used as a venue for temporary exhibitions, and on its roof, there is a terrace café offering a great view of local attractions.
