Resort cities of Basse-Normandie also provide a great choice of excursions for its guests. The city of Ouistreham hosts the museum of Atlantic Wall representing an exhibition dedicated to region’s military history. Tourists interested in architectural landmarks should visit city of Bayeux. Lots of medieval buildings, including impressive cathedral, have survived there until these days.
City of Cherbourg with its medieval charm is an excellent change from war theme. Beautiful building are found literally everywhere at Cherbourg; many of them are occupied by hotels, shops or restaurants. Sea Museum and busy Centrale square are must see places there. The theater is located next to the square; local small shops offer charming umbrellas, the most popular souvenirs of the city. Old sea port of Barfleur is wide-known for its restaurants, but the symbol if the city is the Phare de Gatteville lighthouse. It is still interesting place to visit, despite its best times are long over now.
Honfleur is the one of the most popular resorts of Basse-Normandie. There you can visit the sea museum, which occupies the Eglise Saint-Etienne church building. The old 17th century military warehouse nearby also hosts the invaluable collection of historical objects. Another point of interest is the unique wooden Saint-Catherine's Church built in 19th century.
