Puerto Plata features scenic beaches with white sand that will impress any traveler. The total length of the region’s sandy coastline is about 120 kilometers; in many parts of the coast you can see amazing golden sand. The fact is that the coast of Puerto Plata is rich in deposits of amber, and its tiny particles give the unusual color to the sand.
One of the most romantic and secluded places is Playa Caleton in the bay of the same name. The beach is very quiet, as high cliffs protect it from the wind and strong waves. Locals like to spend weekends there, but if you go to the beach on a weekday, you can enjoy the pleasant atmosphere of privacy.
Not far from the capital of the province there is Playa Lupiron with thickets of trees looming close to the shoreline. The coast has long been chosen by fans of water sports. Conventionally, the beach area is divided into two parts, one of which is sandy and the other is rocky.
Many travelers choose the lovely Playa Rio San Juan to stay; it’s considered one of the most prestigious and attractive parts of the coast in the province. The main distinguishing feature of this place is pristine natural beauty. Despite the fact that there are many popular resorts next to the coast, its harmonious and peaceful surroundings are in no way affected. The coast appeals not only to those who prefer private sunbathing and relaxation, but also to fans of scenic walks. They should definitely see the fabulously beautiful Gris Gris Lagoon, next to which originate mangroves. There are caves, as well as incredibly beautiful natural pools at this part of the coast.
