The city was founded by Vikings in the end of the eighth century. It is situated in a picturesque area rich in forests and lakes, and the eastern part of the city is the location of a small cove. Today it is a major business and cultural center, the second largest city in Denmark. Aarhus has quickly become popular among European youth, because there are so many entertainments and rest opportunities. Besides this, Aarhus is a famous educational center, and so here are located numerous famous universities and colleges.
The best season for tourists is the beginning of autumn as at this time here takes place one of the annual festivals - Festival of Aarhus. The celebration lasts one week, during which the city hosts music concerts, theatrical performances and enchanting outdoor shows. In addition to numerous bars, restaurants, and discos Aarhus attracts visitors by its unique places of interest.
Den Gamle By city-museum is one of the most unusual places of Aarhus. The museum is a small town full of old buildings. They were transported to Aarhus from all over the country. On the streets of this city you can see the "locals" dressed in old clothes - it's the museum’s staff who greets visitors every day. Besides the city-museum several religious buildings of the past have survived in Aarhus. The most famous ones are St. Clement's Cathedral founded in late 15th century and the Church of Our Lady. The local town hall is definitely worth visiting. This is a magnificent architectural structure located in the center of a large park. The facade of the town hall is decorated with marble, which makes this building look even more elegant and meaningful. It is impossible not to mention the museums of Aarhus, the most famous of which are the Viking Museum and the Historical Museum of Aarhus.
