Ancient religious monuments have also been preserved in Ostrava. Katedrala Bozskeho Spasitele is considered the most beautiful in town. The construction of this cathedral lasted six years and was fully completed in 1889. The main author of the architectural project was Gustav Marett. This temple with a hall capable of accommodating up to 4,000 people at a time is one of the largest in the Czech Republic. The cathedral is striking not only with its spectacular appearance but also with its chic interior design. Many valuable religious artifacts are currently stored within its walls. In 1998, a new organ designed in a historical style was installed in the church, so organ concerts are held here regularly.
Travelers wishing to plunge into the cultural traditions of the region must visit the Galerie Vytvarneho Umeni v Ostrave. This museum is dedicated to the regional art and craft traditions. The collection of the gallery began to take shape in 1952. By this time, the Galerie Vytvarneho Umeni has gathered more than 20,000 paintings, as well as the largest craft collection in town. Beer lovers will be happy to check out Pivovar Ostrava, a themed museum occupying a historic 19th-century brewery. Unique beers have been brewed here to this day, and their tasting is an essential part of the tour.
