Santos Dumont Airport is the second important airport in the country. The airport was named after the Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos Dumont. The airport was founded in the 30s of the last century and has long served seaplanes. The number of operation per hour at this airport is limited (the maximum number of operations at Santos Dumont is 19). Night flights are limited too.
At the airport, there are two air-strips and one passenger terminal that annually services 10 million people on average. Air-strips of the airport are some of the shortest strips for Boeings and Airbuses. The airport specializes in scheduled domestic flights. It also services military aviation.
From the airport, you can reach the city by bus #2018 that runs to the bus station in Rio de Janeiro. At the airport, there is the VLT light train line, #1, that links the airport with the Novo Rio bus station. At Santos Dumont, you can order a personal and group transfer to any place. You can pre-order a transfer via special online forms. You can also take a taxi on the first floor of the passenger terminal.
The airport cooperates with the following car rental companies: Avis, Hertz, Localiza, Locaralpha, Movida, and Unidas. The companies’ points where you can sign a rental contract and receive the information on the rental conditions are located at the first level of the terminal in the Arrival concourse. These points are open from 6 am to 23 pm or 12 am.
To book a car in advance, you need to use the contact data (phone numbers) of the companies specified on the airport website or get to the company's website to make a pre-order online. Advance booking will let you choose any car and be sure that you’ll find it upon your arrival at the airport.
Companies offer the unlimited mileage of their cars. The rental cost will include insurance in the event of a car accident or car theft, as well as some local taxes. The additional equipment is provided if available and is paid separately.
