Vienna International Airport (also known as Flughafen Wien-Schwechat) is located 20 km from the center of the capital of Austria. It is the largest airport in the country. Vienna Airport was built in the late 40s of the last century and was used as a military airfield in the period of the Second World War. Over the years of its existence, its terminal was rebuilt, its main air-strip was widened, and the second air-strip was built. The infrastructure of the airport lets accommodate wide-body airplanes. The airport serves not only most of the European flights, but also scheduled flights to Asia, America, and Africa. The annual passenger turnover of the airport is 27 million people. Besides 4 passenger terminals (1, 2, 3, 1A), there is a VIP terminal, a general terminal, and a TV tower at the airport.
From the airport, you can travel to Vienna by several types of transport: electric train, City train (to the city center or the railway station), bus, taxi, or limo. You can also rent a car or use car-sharing services. You can reach the railway station through the passenger terminal. Buses from Vienna Airport go to the capital and other cities of Austria, as well as to Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Romania. The taxi rank is located at the exit from the terminal, by the side of the arrival concourse. To find it, you can also use the “City transfer” services at the airport.
