The construction of this town started in 1796. The first facility built was called the fort named Zoutman. The fort has survived till our days, so one can easily visit it. Around it were built residential areas. Oranjestad expanded its territory steadily, and eventually became the largest city of Aruba. Today this is a well-known beach resort that attracts its guests by picturesque beaches and amazing natural landscapes.
Small colorful houses that make up the majority of the buildings in this town have their own unique charm, complementing the cozy atmosphere. Queen Wilhelmina Park is one of the main attractions of this place. The park was named after the Dutch queen, who has had a significant influence on the development of the city. In the middle of the park you will find a monument with the image of the queen. St. Anne Cathedral built in the end of the 18th century is one of the most notable buildings of Oranjestad. This is a magnificent example of neoclassicism architecture style. The most famous monument of this town is the statue of Simon Bolivar.
