Side used to be an important commercial town. It had a large fleet and conducted trading with the countries situated on the coasts of the Mediterranean and used to a port for inner Turkey. In Side there was a lave market and a piracy home. It somehow helped the city to develop into a rather rich prosperous town.
Side has a reputation of a European and Turkish holidaymaker; though it managed to preserve its national originality and authenticity. The town is full of archeological wonders of some certain style: two-stored buildings with wooden balconies. Narrow winding alleys which number in the city is great are surrounded by such buildings.
In Side one can find almost everything he may wish. Some of the most important places of interest are: the Amphitheatre, the Roman Temples of Apollo and Artemis, the City Gates and Aqua ducts.
