This is a true tropical paradise, an excellent resort for beach lovers, boating, diving, and water sports. Due to its natural beauty and mild climate the island is often called "the pearl of the Andaman coast". The city's name can be translated as "mountain", and, indeed, the island resembles a majestic mountain rising among the endless seas from distance.

The beach season in the resort begins in October and lasts until late April. Then starts the season of tropical rains, but even during it the beaches of Phuket are not empty. This weather is ideal for windsurfing because rains are not constant and are followed by sunny weather.

Patong Beach is known as the noisiest and most crowed area of the island. This place will be loved by visitors who enjoy being in the center of all events. Karon is by far more quiet and secluded, but this place also has wide choice of facilities including shops, cinemas and shopping malls that are always open for visitors. Most fashionable hotels and restaurants can be found in Bang Tao district.
