Malmo is a rapidly developing city with an enormous historic record, which has lent a palpable touch on the city's face and its residents' mentality. Malmo was founded in the 13t century, and today it is the third largest city in Sweden, its population amounting to 258,000 inhabitants. The city is located in the south of the country, in the west of Scania, Sweden's southernmost province.

Malmo has long been a major shipbuilding center. In the 1970s, the city suffered serious economic difficulties, which resulted in racing unemployment and general stagnation. The situation righted itself in the late 1990s with the revival of the city's basic business activities.

Malmo has lots of beautiful historic buildings, most of which are concentrated in its old-town area. Many of these buildings, as well as the town's layout, go back to the 13th and 14th centuries. There are a number of sights that are really worth seeing, such as the Mamous Castle, St. Petri Church, as well as Rooseum and Konsthallen museums, renownd for their exceptional collections of artwork.
