This is one of the oldest cities in Scandinavia that attracts travelers by tremendously large choice of attractions. The resort certainly will surely please those tourists who prefer quiet and secluded cities and long unhurried walks. Approximately a third of the city is devoted to pedestrians. Uppsala Cathedral is, without a doubt, one of the main attractions of the city. The construction of the cathedral started in the 13th century and lasted for almost 200 years. This is a grand-scale building created in the Gothic style. Its spacious halls strike visitors with luxurious interior and fine handmade paintings, which cover both walls and altar. This church is the oldest one in Sweden. Don’t forget to take a look at its main shrine - the tomb of St. Eric. Numerous kings and famous personalities are buried on the territory of the cathedral. Among them are Johann II, Gustav Vasa, Carolus Linnaeus, Emanuel Swedenborg, and Nathan Sederblom.
