The city was founded in 1478 and it managed to keep the buildings of that time in its Vegeta quarter. Here you can see the Cathedral built in 1497. The church is built in the gothic style inside, while its exterior is made in the neoclassic style. Travellers are also offered to visit the House of Columbus that is located in a beautiful residence of first governors of the island. It keeps historical relics of the Columbus era. In the Canary Museum you will be able to see the items referred to the pre-Spanish epoch of art. Medieval living houses have also survived in Vegeta quarter. These are cozy and charming buildings with balconies made of Canary pine. The houses are decorated with carvings and hidden inner yards.
