There are many places of interest in Gran Canaria. These are old Vegueta quarter on the south of the city that keeps interesting architectural and historical sights, St. Anna Square on which is located the Cathedral, the house of Christopher Columbus that is now open as the Museum of Century of Discoveries, and Canary Islands Museum that features artifacts from the ancient Canary civilization. The island’s capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is also one of the largest ports in the Atlantic Ocean. Almost a half of the island’s population lives here.
