Santiago de Compostela is the capital of the region. The Cathedral with relics of St. James the Greater is its main landmark. This unique religious monument attracting thousands of pilgrims to the city is interesting from an architectural point of view. In addition to this religious monument, the city has a very interesting ancient university, the scenic Gelmirez Palace and the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria del Sar.
A lot of interesting landmarks can be found in La Coruna that is often called the ‘city of contrasts.’ It is the oldest city in the region; however, its attractive modern look is simply amazing. It features the old Roman lighthouse and several beautiful churches in the Romanesque style; the Museum of Fine Arts never ceases to attract connoisseurs of art. While walking around the city, vacationers can see a lot of beautiful old buildings next to impressive monuments of modern architecture.
