The People's House is one of the most famous attractions of this place. This is a historic building with a rich history. The main square of the city, which is also the main shopping center, is called Glavni. The largest shopping and restaurants of Novo Mesto are located around it. From time to time the square becomes the place of trade fairs and paintings exhibitions. Other famous places of interest include Town Hall, Franciscan Monastery, the ancient Church of St. Nicholas, and the Dean House. These are the most beautiful buildings of the town, which are so wonderful that tourists spend there long hours. The inner décor of the monastery and church are simply striking by the elegance of style and graceful forms.
Besides this, the suburbs of Novo Mesto are the location of 8 medieval castles, which main aim was protecting the territory. The monasteries have survived well till our days; currently a part of castles has been turned into museums that throw the light upon the history of the town and represent valuable collections of artifacts. The most popular museum of the city is called Dolenjska. It features numerous collections of different items. Several rooms of the museum are devoted to historical collections; you will also find here a collection of paintings and sculptures.
