St. Petersburg is Russia's second largest city but if to talk about the beauty – it certainly deserves the first place. The classical culture is concentrated in the former capital. There are more than fifty theaters in the city among them is the world-famous Mariinsky Theater.
The Bronze Horseman is a famous statue of Peter the Great. It is situated in the Decembrists Square. This is also the name of a poem written by Aleksandr Pushkin about the statue.
The place that Peter chose for his city was a swamp all over there. The tsar just ordered to get there thousands of peasants to cover the swamp with ground. Thousands of people passed away because of the hard work. Nowadays St. Petersburg is sometimes called the city on bones.
