Boutiques and shopping centers are open from 9 am till 7 pm. A short lunchtime about an hour is possible during the day. Saturday is considered to be a shortened working day meanwhile only upscale shopping centers and malls are open on Sundays.
The large cities of Madeira have adopted the cashless transfer system. The credit cards are accepted in any shopping center, large restaurants and filling stations. One should have enough cash when setting off to the remote cities of the island and for shopping on the markets.
The system of public transport is represented with a branching network of bus routes by which one can easily cruise the island. One should not travel far from the hotel after 20.00 as the buses and other public transport are rather rare at this time.
