Kuala Lumpur is the largest city of Malaysia. The city proper, making up an area of 244 km2 (94 sq mi), has an estimated population of 1.6 million in 2006. Originally Kuala Lumpur was a mining settlement in the late 1800s due to tin which was discovered there. Some years later tin industry declined but it didn't reflect on the city's general prosperity.

Today in Kuala Lumpur there live more than 1.5 million people in the city itself and surrounding territories. It is considered to be the political and cultural centre of the whole country; it is also in the head of Malaysia's fast development of all the economic, commercial and industrial spheres.
