In the suburban district of George town tourists will find a well known mountain named Bukit Bendera climbing to the top of which is a popular ritual among tourists. They will find a great observation ground on the top of the mountain presenting a good panorama of all the districts of the island. Getting to the top of the mountain of 833m height is possible in two ways: either on foot or by a special cable railway. The largest and most beautiful religious construction on the island is considered to be the Kek Lok Si temple or Temple of Supreme Bliss. Its festive opening was held in 1890. The construction of the temple lasted for 20 years. .
The temple presents a unique fusion of Thai, Chinese and Burmese architectural traditions. Close to the marvelous building tourists will find the Ban Pa Thar pagoda of the same incredible glory. One of the most exciting and original cultural objects of the island is considered to be the War Museum of Penang. The cultural establishment is located on the ruins of British fortress which was erected in the first part of the 20th century. The museum presents a lifestyle and peculiar aspects of life of British and Malaysian soldiers during the World War II.
