The capital of Macedonia is a city with dramatic and fascinating history. Here you will find simply everything for interesting rest - temples of wonderful beauty and cozy streets, ancient palaces and magnificent parks, shops and markets, and, of course, numerous restaurants and entertainment centers.
It is believed that Skopje was founded in 518 by the order of Emperor Justinian I. However, the settlements on the territory of the modern city have existed before this, but the majority of those buildings were destroyed by the strong earthquake. The beginning of the city’s official history starts once it has been rebuilt by the order of the Byzantine ruler. The disaster, which had killed thousands of lives in 518, was not the last tragedy in the history of the city. Skopje has survived after numerous wars, and the city has been captured by the Turks and then the Austrians. In 1555 the nature made another strike, and a few years later here started an epidemic of plague.
