The main attraction in Kaunas is surely the city center. It is surrounded by the Neris River from one side and by the Nemunas River from the other. The city center is famous for its old buildings, the most noticeable of which is the City Hall. At the square nearby (the City Hall Square) you may find a lot of local shop. Some of them date back to the 16th century. But still the pearl of the square is the City Hall.
If you turn to the north-east and have some walk, you find yourself at the Cathedral, which was founded in the days of Vytautas the Great. But, on the whole, the buildings at this area were mainly created in the 18th century. To the north-west from the square, the ruins of the Kaunas Castle are situated. Unfortunately only some parts of the walls and tower are left undamaged, but it still creates an unforgettable impression.
