Another important symbol of the region is wine; a very interesting and colorful holiday is dedicated to it. Corsa della Botti Wine Festival is held annually in Nice Monferato. The main event of this festival is an unusual race; it brings together representatives of various wineries. The purpose of competition is very simple, just to roll a huge wine barrel to finish as soon as possible. A huge number of people come to watch these races; after it comes the most enjoyable part of the festival, wine tasting. For a modest fee, anyone can taste the most exquisite varieties of drinks, as each local winery brings its greatest wines to the festival.
Every June, a very interesting historical festival featuring unique medieval atmosphere is held in Canelli. Last years, so-called knight clubs from various European countries have taken part in the festival. Among the winter holidays, the Carnival is worth noting; it is held in the picturesque town of Ivrea. The culmination of a colorful and noisy carnival is the Battle of the Oranges; locals revere an uprising that was organized against the Emperor Barbarossa in the 12th century.
