The external appearance of the building present a unique fusion of Byzantine and Muslim traditions. The connoisseurs of architecture will easily distinguish the traits of Gothic style in its look. Another remarkable spot of tourist interest is the monumental cemetery named the Campo Santo. The cemetery was established in 1277 and is of great architectural significance now. The cemetery was badly damaged during the World War II however local architects and fine art experts managed to renew and restore a major part of its inestimable decorations which are today kept in a local museum.

The most significant cultural establishment of the city of Pisa is the National Museum of San Matteo (Museo nazionale di San Matteo). Its exposition counts more than a thousand of priceless objects of art. The museum is hosted in a scenic building of an ancient monastery which is surrounded with parkland of the same breathtaking beauty and charm. An interesting collection is presented in the Museum of Duomo Museo dell'Opera del Duomo. The museum offers its visitors a cozy inner court to rest and recreate after an exploration of the showpieces of medieval epoch.
