It was constructed in 1173; the tower’s height estimates 56 meters. The restoration of the complex has been completed recently. The tower’s foundation was strengthened securely, so, according to architects, it should stand at least three hundred years. Many legends are connected with the main symbol of the town. However, no one knows the answer to the main question – why the tower doesn’t fall. Modern architects agree that the tower of such design was destined to fall right from the very beginning. The fact it has survived till our days is a true miracle.
You will also find several historic religious buildings in this town. Cathedral Duomo is a wonderful example of the Romanesque style. This is a large building with a façade made of white marble. The construction of the cathedral took place in the 11th century. The pulpit of the cathedral was made by the famous Italian master Giovanni Pisano, and this is not the only item that decorates this cathedral. The Baptistery built in the 12th century is an excellent example of Gothic architecture. Its walls are also decorated with frescoes by Giovanni Pisano, and the images on them feature the fragments of most significant historical events.
