Another antique landmark is the ruins of Appolo temple; tourists’ favorite walking places are market square and the old docks area. The biggest archaeological museum on the island is also located in Limenas and introduces the history and religion of Thasos to all those interested.
Second biggest town on the island is Limenaria. An ancient fortress located on top of the hill provides an excellent view on surrounding area and is the true symbol of Limenaria. The Palataki residence is located on a scenic cape extending into the sea. It was built early in 20th century by one of ore mining companies working on Thasos. Nowadays the residence is one of the most important local landmarks and hosts the modern cultural center.
Next to Limenaria a number of antique Turkish buildings are located. If you like excursions, it's worth to visit the Church of Assumption in Panagria. There are some unique artifacts being stored there including Crusaders banner and 14-17th centuries icons.
Potamia village is located in the mountainous area of Thasos. It is known as the origin of famous artist Polygnotus Vagis. The municipal museum dedicated to Polygnotis was open in 1992, so today everyone can enjoy his priceless artworks. Another place of tourist’s interest is the Cape Aliki; ancient temple ruins are located there. Scientists guess that it was built in 7th century B.C. Large collection of religious items are on display at Archangel Michael's Monastery located near ruins. Another place of tourist interest is Thrologos town. A number of mansions have survived there to these days.
