Major part of shops and malls open no later than 8:30 am; large shopping complexes can work till late at night. During the day, the lunch break is possible, which usually lasts at least two hours. Common day off is Sunday.
Going for a walk, don’t take documents and other valuables with you. It’s better to store them in a safe in a hotel room. Almost all supermarkets and shopping centers accept payment by credit card; cash will be useful to those who plan to visit open-air markets and small shops selling souvenirs.
Tipping is customary to leave literally for any service rendered. At the restaurant, tip usually makes up at least 10% of the total order. When paying to a taxi driver, the resulting sum is rounded up to any convenient.
Employees of the large hotels, restaurants and shopping centers speak foreign languages. To show respect for local traditions, you should definitely learn a few phrases in Greek; such displays of respect are appreciated by locals.
