Liverpool is situated in the south-west of England along the Mersey River. It's second largest port of export in Great Britain. The historical part of the city, including the well-known Albert Dock, was put in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 2004. Liverpool borders upon such cities as Huyton and Bootle. On the other bank of the Mersey River take place Wellsy and Birkenhead. All over the world Liverpool is first of all famous for its old football clubs Everton and Liverpool. The citizens of Liverpool are officially called 'liverpudlians', but more spread is their other nickname - 'scousers'. They got it because of their love for lobscouse, the soup that was invented by the Norwegians and then became the favorite meal of the poor. In this city people speak special dialect – scouse. Liverpool is known in every corner of the world not only for its legendary river port and 'The Beetles', but also for Grand National Steeplechase.
