Braunschweig was severely damaged during the Second World War, when was destroyed a significant part of historic buildings and priceless architectural monuments of the city. The restoration of some of the buildings continues even at the present time. As a rule, restoration works take place in the famous Braunschweig Castle and the building of "Old Scales". Several interesting excursion sites can be found in the downtown area, where you can see beautiful cathedral and several old churches - Magnikirche, Egidienkirche, Emmauskirche and Martinikirche.
