Locals honor traditions of their ancestors. Each year indigenous people celebrate a variety of festivals, many of which are very popular among foreign travelers. Erfurt is considered the cultural center of the region; the most extensive and colorful celebrations take place in this city. Among the most unusual celebrations Krämerbrückenfest is notable; it is dedicated to the city bridge of the same name.
The first festival was held in 1975; since then, every third weekend of June, Krämerbrücke bridge and the square located next to the cathedral become the most busy and noisy areas of Erfurt. During the festival, there is a fair right on the bridge, where you can buy amazing souvenirs and holiday treats. Various recreational activities take place next to the bridge and the Cathedral square from early morning until late at night.
