Magdeburg is rich in interesting sightseeing spots. There you can admire the Gothic Magdeburg Cathedral, the oldest one in Germany, the construction of which as started in 1209. The Cathedral square, where it is located, is surrounded by Baroque buildings. The Romanic Monastery of Our Lady, founded in 1015 by archbishop Gero, is now the city's art museum and concert hall. There is also the Old Market and the Town Hall, which sustained damage during World War II, but large part of them has been reconstructed. There you can also see the Magdeburg Horseman's stature.
