Tourists will also enjoy their visit to Seligenthal – a female monastery built in 1232. Previously it has been used as a Dominican monastery.
Duke’s palace named Trausnitz built in XVI century proudly raises above the old district of the town. Once this palace has been used as a residence of Wittelsbachs. One of the most famous sights of this palace is the ladder of jesters. It is decorated with wall drawings featuring scenes from Italian comedies. If you climb up to the palace’s top, you will see a wonderful panoramic view of the city and the Izar River. Saint Martin Church is located just nearby. The church is made in the gothic style and has the tallest brick tower in whole Bavaria. The height of the tower estimates 133 meters. The church is also decorated with columns with terracotta figures and carved choruses.
This town has its own tradition – once in four years here takes place a unique performance, Landshut Duke’s wedding. This is a wonderful and a beautiful performance with actors wearing costumes of previous centuries. The tradition exists from 1475 – this year the local cathedral was the location of the wedding between Polish Princess Jadwiga and duke’s son George.
