Briefly about Augsburg, Germany

Augsburg topics

Today, Augsburg is an independent city, located northwest of Munich, Bavaria. Due to its location on major European trading paths, Augsburg became a significant commercial point. This is the place where the aristocratic Fugger family established a steady banking system and gained the characters of patrons of the arts. This is the place where a serious religious conflict took place in 1555, resulting in the famous Peace Treaty between the Catholic and Protestant church branches. In the 19th century, Augsburg enjoyed substantial industrial growth and became a major textile and machinery production center. During WWII, the city was destroyed severely by the allied aircraft.

Today, Augsburg is medium-sized city, its population being about 264,000 inhabitants. It is also a large high-tech production center. Augsburg is the third largest city in Bavaria after Munich and Nuremberg.
