In 1220 the School of Medicine was opened in the city by order of Cardinal Conrad, and a couple of years later Montpellier became the property of Aragonese kings. Trading also began developing seriously, becoming the main source of income for the city treasury. Today the city is a calm and quiet place; tourists appear here only in summer. The newest area of the city is called the place de la Comde, here you can attend best restaurants and stores, as well as look at architectural sites.
