In 1998 Lyon's town center was put in the UNESCO World Heritage List (at that time only a few cities could boast of it). Every corner of Lyon has its own distinguished features, which you will never mix with each other. Another thing that makes Lyon stand out is the contrast in the placing between Fourviere Hill and Croix-Rousse Hill. It's also special that it takes place between two rivers – the Rhone and the Saone. Lyon was founded by the Romans on Fourviere Hill and if to look attentively, you still may notice some features of those times. At first the city was called Lugdunum, which in Latin means 'the city of light'. Even now Lyon proves its name, when in the evenings more than a hundred of houses light up, and it seems to that you've got into a fairy-tale.
