The second half of February is the time for another colorful carnival, which is also known as one of the most popular and oldest festivals. For the first time the holiday was celebrated by local residents far back in 1294, when one of the famous earls decided to have some fun and organized a sumptuous feast. The royal celebration was so magnificent, that it quickly spread over the city. Since then, in the memory of that remarkable event, each year the residents of the city organize a series of beautiful balls. If you visit this holiday, you will become a witness of entertaining performances of actors and musicians. The holiday is ended with fireworks.
The last day of carnival always coincided with the last Tuesday of February. The locals call this day Mardi Gras, which is literally translated as "Fat Tuesday". The most colorful festivals and tasting festive dishes take place exactly on this day. Many know this holiday by another name - "Pancake Day". Liquid streamers remain one of the main attributes of the carnival. The colorful cans with streamers are sold completely everywhere. Not only children, but also adults have fun and spray each other with shining spangles. The locals, who make walks on this day, are very patient to people who have fun, but if you care about your hairstyle, it’s recommended to wear a headgear before you start a walk.
