Bordeaux's history began ages ago. First there was an ancient settlement between the two rivers. The place where the city grew was named Port de la Lune. The city was poor before the extreme economical growth in 1830-ies. The international trade made the city wealthy so the governors decided to rebuild the city. The old buildings were ruined and large new constructions were built. The city had its face changed.
Bordeaux is situated in the part of France famous for its unique wine. Though the city has been wealthy it didn't rescue from the economical crisis of the XIX century.
The recovery was long and painful. The center of the city was almost ruined. It came back to life in the end of XIX century. The buildings have been rebuilt and gained the same old gloss as it had in XVIII century. The city was shining through the ages with its glamorous cafes, shops and casinos.
