A large part of the shops are open from 8:00 to 20:00. Many shops close for a lunch break in the afternoon. At the height of the tourist season many grocery stores and supermarkets can open somewhat earlier, at 6 - 7 am.
Do not forget to leave tips in restaurants and cafes of the city. As a rule, the tip of 10% of the total order will be sufficient. Service charges are rarely included in the total bill, so your reward should be given directly to waiter’s hands or you can simply round the due amount in a big way to any convenient sum.
Despite the fact that the city is very quiet and is distinguished by low level of crime, travelers should not forget to remain careful in public places and should monitor their belongings closely. Do not go to remote areas of the city alone, and do not take large sums of money and other valuable items without any particular need.
In order to be respected by the locals, make sure to learn a few phrases in their native language. A significant part of the local population is fluent in English and Italian, so no problems with understanding should appear.
