The embankment is the location of numerous hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars and other facilities that traditionally attract tourists and locals by their unique originality and beauty of Dalmatian landscapes. Kacic Miosic’s Square is the heart of the town and the location of St. Mark Church. The church is surrounded by Old Town, which is an ancient region of Makarska famous for its narrow streets where sun can hardly break through the shadows of overgrown vines. The streets in this part of the town resemble paved Mediterranean mazes. Franciscan monastery is an amazing building from the architecture point of view. The monastery is situated in the southeastern part of town. An interesting fact - a part of wine cellars in the monastery is dedicated to Museum of Shells. Makarska’s climatic conditions are really favorable as the average annual temperature here reaches 16 degrees by Celsius. This allows enjoying spectacular views and various activities almost all year round in this part of the world.
However, magnificent beaches still remain the main pride of Makarska. The beaches stretch along whole perimeter of the coastline. They are also considered among the best beaches of the Croatian territory. The beaches feature a wide range of water sports and other activities, so everyone will here find something interesting. Due to the advantageous geographical position of Makarska tourists can easily visit Dubrovnik and Split, or get to Sumartin by regular ferry boat rides.
